Holley Family Dentistry was founded by his father Dr. James W Holley III in 1955. The original office was opened in the 300 block of Effingham St in the downtown section of Portsmouth Virginia. In 1970, the office moved to the 400 block of Effingham St. Dr. James W Holley IV joined his father in the practice in 1988. They practiced together in the original building until 2007. They considered remodeling or adding to the original office that was only 900 square feet. It was found to be in the best interest that a totally new facility was needed to better serve their patients and the community.
Through much deliberation and planning, a new 12,000 square foot 3 Story professional building was conceived, which housed Holley Family Dentistry for Cosmetic, Implant & Restorative Dentistry which features 7 operatories with large panoramic windows with striking views of the old town of Portsmouth. The Holley Professional building also houses the pediatric dental practice of Dr. JB Martin who is a specialist in pediatric dentistry, as well as the law practice of Robin Holley-Duke this just happened to be the sister of Dr. James W Holley the IV. The Practice expanded in 1998 to Newport News and offered Cosmetic Dentistry for the first time in the Hilton section of Newport News. In 2002, the practice grew yet again with the opening of their Virginia Beach office in the Kempsville section of the Virginia Beach. Then in 2008, the practice grew again with the acquisition of a practice in Fredericksburg, VA. Our Staff consist of 16 auxiliary personnel and 4 Doctors.
Seeing patients his father treated who wore dentures and whose bone levels were slowly deteriorating over time. Sparked by a classmate urging that he should take a look into implant dentistry lead him to take the only implant course in the nation in which a dentist not formally enrolled could be trained and treat a live patient. Since 1988, Dr. Holley has since restored hundreds of implant patients with missing teeth and has given them a new lease on enjoying a complete healthier smile. Throughout Dr. Holley IV 22yrs of dentistry with guided influences of his father’s knowledge for continuing education. Dr. Holley has pursued advanced training in advanced areas of dentistry. Not only did Dr Holley complete the surgical and prosthetic mish implant course, he gained fellowship credentials and discipline in the international congress of oral and implantology. With Dr. Holley’s implant training he was also exposed to sedation. Dr Holley recognizes the anxiety of dentistry and offers sedation to all his patients through (DOS) Dental Organization of Conscious Sedation.
Being keenly aware of the correlation of good dentistry and health, Dr. Holley has been an advocate for restoring mercury restorations and replacing them with porcelain restorations. Holley Family Dentistry Offers an integrative approach to dentistry founded on the knowledge that dental health is intimately connected to the health of the whole person. Proper nutrition and the elimination of toxins such as mercury from the mouth are essential components of the general and cosmetic dental services. Through his training in Cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Holley has also added same day all ceramic restorations to his practice with the use of cerec technology. This has eliminated the need for second and third visits for cosmetic dentistry. This state of the art dentistry allows people with busy schedules to have their dentistry done in one afternoon. Dr Holley’s Offices Provides a full range of dental services ranging from the latest techniques to the most advanced development in dental technology industry, utilizing digital radiography which gives instantaneous imaging that subjects patients to lower and safer levels of radiation, computerized imaging, intraoral cameras, and the highest quality materials.

Lumineers are thin porcelain veneers that provide beauty and strength while preserving natural tooth structure. They permanently whiten teeth, fix uneven spacing reshape awkward teeth.
